James Hale has been active as a writer, editor and broadcaster since 1978.


He began his career in magazine publishing, and worked for eight years as a staff writer, senior editor and managing editor for a number of regional and national publications.


As a freelancer, he has written more than 3,000 articles and columns for publications ranging from corporate employee newsletters to consumer magazines that include: SC Magazine, Marketing, Canadian Business, NWA WorldTraveler and Voyageur. For six years, he wrote a weekly column on the radio industry for The Ottawa Citizen, and for five years he contributed a monthly column on popular culture and the arts scene to Ottawa Magazine.


James Hale is the author of four books: From Farm To Plate: Egg Marketing in Canada, 1972-2012; Branching Out: The Story of the Royal Canadian Legion; Ottawa With Kids; and Frommer’s Ottawa 2011.


A graduate of Carleton University, for four years – 2005-09 – he served as Chair of the Editorial Advisory Board of the university’s alumni magazine, which reaches 110,000 people worldwide.
